Experience the IPL and its results

Photofacials are a popular way of dealing with sun damaged skin. Also known as an IPL (Intense Pulse Light) it is often misunderstood to be a “laser” treatment. In fact, it is using a very safe but intense light source.

We decided to use our very own staff, Bonnie Hooper, as a “guinea pig” to openly demonstrate how effective this form of treatment can be while at the same time offer the patient a glimpse of what the results and course of therapy entails.

We wanted to be able to show potential patients what they can expect over the first few days of therapy and to not be discouraged by the initial response. At the same time this demonstrates the patience that is required before the final results can be appreciated.

Wayne Hooper MD performed a series of treatments to improve Bonnie’s skin over her arms and upper chest. We wanted to share with you the appearance of her skin damaged upper arms before, during and after treatment. The following are actual pictures during this three month course of interventions.

Right arm sun before treatment with IPL. Sun damage is apparent

Here is a pre-treatment images. The right upper arm on November 14th is shown with the sun damage apparent.

One day after the first IPL treatment on the right arm.

One day after the first IPL treatment the damaged areas of the skin show their intense response to the light therapy

Left arm on November 15th one day after the first IPL treatment

The left upper arm is shown as well as it was on November 15th 24 hours after the first treatment.

Almost 4 weeks after the first therapy the arm shows the improved state of sun damage. The darker area still needs further treatment.

By December 12th the arm has already shown improvement with the normal appearance of areas already returning to a more normal skin appearance while other skin still needs to be treated with another course of IPL.

December 30th. Almost 6 weeks after treatment began.

Two weeks later the arm now appears to be improving but still in need of further attention.

Three months after therapy the left arm is now a more natural look

The final results show how much smoother the skin now appears and the sun damaged areas have now been returned to a more natural appearance. This is about three months after the first therapy with two other “touchup” IPL therapies aimed at the darker, unresolved skin damaged areas.

Post treatment appearance of a more natural appearing right arm

The other arm has also returned to a much improved appearance and the sun damage has now been resolved!

Three treatments with the IPL resolved Bonnie’s sun damaged appearing arms. A chemical peel was done to even out the texture and finish the job by smoothing the entire skin field.

However, more judicious sun exposure coupled with sun screen and potential “touch up” treatments in the years to come with the IPL will result in maintaining the youthful skin appearance.

Call the office to discuss how the IPL can help you and your skin regain that natural, youthful look!
