Wm. Wayne Hooper is a board certified
specialist in Internal Medicine (1980) and Pulmonary Medicine
(1982). In 1987 he completed his board certification
in Critical Care Medicine. He has been in practice for over 25
years in La Jolla, California, at Scripps Memorial Hospital
where he recently completed his tenure as Chief of Medicine. He
is a Fellow in the American College of Internal Medicine
(FACP), a Fellow in the Royal College of Canada (FRCP{C}),
and a Fellow in the American College of Chest Physicians
(FCCP).
Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Dr. Hooper attended medical
school at McGill University where he graduated in 1975. He
fulfilled his internship and residency requirements at The
Royal Victoria Hospital, in Montreal, Quebec, and his fellowship
in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of
California, San Diego.
After graduation he joined the Faculty at UCSD and became
an Assistant Professor of Medicine. Specializing in Pulmonary
and Critical Care Medicine, he pursued research and published
multiple articles concerning pulmonary hypertension, heart
disease resulting from lung disorders, and pulmonary vascular
problems. In 1980, he entered private practice at Scripps Memorial
Hospital, dividing his time between a busy office and a consultative
service focusing on critically ill patients. He is now practicing, outpatient consultative medicine in pulmonary disease and internal medicine in Encinitas, California. The office is conveniently located next to Scripps Memorial Hospital on Santa Fe Drive. In addition, Dr. Hooper maintains a consultative service in Mammoth Lakes, California for outpatient evaluation.
With a strong background in the management of illness, Dr.
Hooper has now turned his focus to improving and maintaining
health through an approach that combines conventional methodology
with a belief in evaluating the person as a whole. His goal
is to help patients help themselves achieve a higher state
of well-being. He believes that health can be improved through
consultation with an experienced
physician, with a mutual commitment to enriching life and improving
health through detailed health analysis, exercise performance and
diet, and nutritional modifications.
Memberships in professional associations include the California Medical Association,
American College of Physicians, and the American College of Chest Physicians.
For recreation, Dr. Hooper enjoys endurance running, and currently
has completed over 50 marathons. He also mountain and road bikes,
skis, golfs, weight trains and enjoys Pilates. He and his wife,
Bonnie, divide their time between San Diego and Mammoth Lakes,
California. |
